The Mind That No Longer Needs Directions.

Sthitaprajna — the Unshakeable One. In the Gita, Arjuna asks Krishna one practical question: how does a person of steady wisdom speak, sit, walk? Chapter 2, verse 54. The answer runs for eighteen verses. This is the stage of the Sadhaka Path that takes those verses seriously — not as philosophy, but as a description of a trainable state.

The Difference, Made Visible

Two Flames in the Same Wind

The Gita's other image (6.19): a lamp in a windless place does not flicker. Except the sthitaprajna's secret is stranger — the wind still blows. The lamp has simply stopped negotiating with it.

The Ordinary Mind

Every gust — news, criticism, loss, praise — rewrites its shape. It burns, but it never rests.

The Sthitaprajna

The same wind. The same world. The flame simply holds its form — bright, warm, unmoved.

What Is Built

What Steadiness Actually Means

Not withdrawal from life. Full presence inside it, without being rearranged by it.

1

Equanimity That Holds

Gain and loss, praise and blame arrive at the same doorway and are met the same way. Not felt less. Held differently.

2

The End of Reactivity

The gap between what happens and what you do stops being an accident and becomes a decision.

3

Unborrowed Peace

Contentment that does not wait on the next quarter, the next result, the next anything to arrive first.

4

Presence That Teaches

Children copy the nervous system in the room long before they follow the instruction in it. A steady adult teaches without speaking.

5

The Complete Sadhana

A daily practice that runs without a teacher, a group, an app or a good mood to start it.

6

The Still Point

The mind stops asking which way to go, because it has stopped being pulled. This is the state the path was named for.

Where the Word Comes From

Arjuna Asked a Practical Question.

“What is the description of a person of steady wisdom? How does such a one speak, sit, and walk?”
Bhagavad Gita 2.54 · Arjuna to Krishna

Notice what he does not ask. Not what such a person believes, or feels, or has renounced. He asks how they speak, sit and walk — the observable things. Arjuna is a soldier on a battlefield; he wants to know what it looks like from outside, because he intends to become it.

Krishna answers for eighteen verses, and none of the answer is abstract. Desires that no longer pull. Senses that obey. A mind that neither grasps at pleasure nor recoils from difficulty. Steadiness described as behaviour, not as mood.

Two and a half thousand years later, the description has not needed updating. Only the practice that produces it had to be recovered.
