A Temple Town, a Registered Trust, and 100,000 Children Who Have Never Been There.
Vidyarambh Gurukula is run by Shri Varadanjaneya Swamy Gowsamrakshana Charitable Trust, at Hanumadashrama in Shivapura — a village in Shikaripura taluk, Shivamogga district, Karnataka. The teaching is one of four things the trust does, and it was not the first.
We are not a school. We are a trust that happens to teach.
We Did Not Invent the Word. We Borrowed It.
For most of this civilisation’s history a child’s education did not begin with an admission form. It began with vidyarambha — a lamp, a mantra, a teacher’s hand on the head, and a specific day chosen for it. The word marks a moment, not an institution.
We took the name from that moment because it is precise about what we are attempting. Not another school. The beginning of knowing, put back where it belongs.

The registered name is Shri Varadanjaneya Swamy Gowsamrakshana Charitable Trust. Gowsamrakshana means the protection of cows. That is what the trust was named for, and the goshala is still where the day starts before any child is taught.
The Gurukula is the newest limb, not the founding one. We say this plainly because the alternative — a teaching business that added a goshala for atmosphere — is a common thing and not what this is.
The Teaching Is One Limb. Here Are the Other Three.
Between sunrise and sunset the trust’s hands are in four places. A parent who only ever sees the workshop is seeing a quarter of it.
Goshala Seva
Before a single child is taught, the cows are washed and fed — by Guruji, with his own hands, before sunrise. Children who come for the five-day immersion spend a morning doing the same.

Seva for Rural Schools
Mothers trained as volunteers carry the yogic morning into government schools in the surrounding villages. No fee is charged and none is accepted. The village a child is born in should not decide what they are taught.

Lakes & Seasonal Trees
The village’s water bodies are guarded and cleared, and trees are planted that will outlive everyone who planted them. Children are brought to both, which is the entire teaching method.

Every home a place where the old way of learning lives again. Not a campus we build, but a practice families keep.
Nothing About This Requires Coming to Shivapura.
One hundred thousand children have been trained and the overwhelming majority have never set foot in the village. The practice was designed to be carried home, done in fifteen minutes, and kept by a family without a teacher standing over them.
That is not a compromise forced by distance. It is what a gurukula education always was — something a household holds, not something a building administers.

The trust runs on acharyas, coordinators, seva leads and a large number of mothers who volunteer without being asked twice.
